Two Years of You

Long days

and short years.

That’s what they said.

Hard to believe,

but now so clear.

Another year.

You’re two.

Bluey is your favourite now,

and Teddy–

no sleeping without him.

“Uh-oh”,

“high five”,

“fist pump”.

And a little dancing too.

Your first time on an aeroplane,

sitting on my knee.

“Wow”, you say,

we’re in the clouds.

On our way to Italy.

Running to me after nursery,

“Mummy, Mummy, Mummy”,

holding hands at bedtime,

your eyes heavy while I read.

A stack full of artwork,

hands covered in paint.

Play-dough on the kitchen floor.

And stickers on my face.

If you ask me someday,

would I do it all again–

I’ll smile and tell you–

a thousand times,

the same.
